BHTA Junior Tennis Scholarship Program – 2026

The Black Hills Tennis Association (BHTA) is proud to offer annual scholarships to deserving youth student-athletes in our community who may need financial assistance to cover membership fees, lessons, and court time at an indoor tennis facility.

BHTA Junior Tennis Scholarship Program – 2026

The Black Hills Tennis Association (BHTA) will award six one-year junior memberships to a local tennis facility — either The Tennis Center of the Black Hills or Arrowhead Country Club — beginning January 2026 through December 2026.

Each scholarship recipient will receive 66 group lessons and two private one-hour lessons with a tennis professional.

Recipients will work closely with certified tennis professionals to develop all aspects of their game, including footwork, serving, stroke technique, endurance, power, strategy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age: 11–17 years old

  • Tennis Experience: Some prior tennis participation is preferred (e.g., middle or high school tennis, summer recreation programs, or private club experience).

  • Interest: Applicants must demonstrate a genuine desire to learn and improve their tennis skills, with the goal of competing on a middle or high school JV/Varsity team in the Black Hills area.

  • Residence: Must reside in the Black Hills area of South Dakota.

  • Income: Financial need and personal circumstances will be considered.

  • Behavior: Recipients must show respect, commitment, and consistently demonstrate good sportsmanship and character.

  • Academics: Must maintain good academic standing.

Application Requirements

Applications must include the following:

  1. Completed BHTA Scholarship Application Form

  2. Two non-family personal references (e.g., coach, mentor, teacher, religious leader, employer, or family friend)

  3. Statement of Commitment signed by both the applicant and a parent/legal guardian

Recipients will be required to track and report their monthly facility use.

Previous scholarship recipients may reapply for a second scholarship; however, no more than two scholarships will be awarded to any single recipient.

Statement of Commitment

I,(parent) commit to supporting my child in their tennis development and use of BHTA scholarship funds. This support includes travel arrangements to and from tennis facility. I understand that the scholarship is for a junior membership at a tennis facility. I understand that once decision is made which club Iwill attend I will not be allowed to switch facilities. Failure to utilize tennis facility opportunities may result in forfeiture of scholarship and scholarship may be awarded to another individual. Exceptions will be made during participation in seasonal High School/Middle School Tennis Programs.While some private lessons and group lessons are provided additional lessons will be the responsibility of the recipient/parents.

**All recipients will be responsible for tracking and reporting their

monthly usage to a BHTA representative.

BHTA Scholarship History

Over the past 7 years, more than 55 scholarships have been awarded, totaling over $14,300 in support for youth tennis in our community.

  • 2023: 4 scholarships awarded – $2,000 total

  • 2022: 6 scholarships awarded – $1,000 total

  • 2021: 10 scholarships awarded – $2,500 total

  • 2020: 5 scholarships awarded – $2,000 total

  • 2019: 10 scholarships awarded – $2,500 total

  • 2018: 10 scholarships awarded – $2,300 total

  • 2017: 10 scholarships awarded – $2,000 total
